Geocache Description:

Small Lock & Lock (5 cup type, not sandwhich one, but bigger) hidden in the woods near an old cemetary. Big enough to hold decent size items.

This cemetary was used up till about the 1920s and was abandoned due to the underground springs which saturates the area with water. Local stories state that if someone was burried during the wet season and rains came, the coffins would work their way back to the surface. After awhile I guess someone got the idea that they should start putting people elsewhere to save themselves some work.

Part of the forest has overgrown the edges of the cemetary and you can find some smaller headstones among the trees. If you look at the graves in the middle, you can see how sunken they are after 100 years. There are still some family members of the deceased still living in the area.

Parking is available at the church, becareful if it has been raining alot at the time when you go, the ground can become very spongey and is uneven. Use the "bridge." It may look unsafe, but if it holds me, it will hold you and it is actually very sturdy. DO NOT try to walk around on the right side if it has been raining anytime in the week before, you'll end up digging out one of your shoes for certain.

The McPherron Christian and Missionary Alliance church has been together for over 100 years. I was the pastor of the church for 5 years and there is alot of rich history in the church and the surrounding area. Please be respectful of church times and the property.

Since the cemetary and the church are both over a hundred years old, I thought it only fitting that the FTF prize should be as well. There is a 1900 Indian Head Penny for the FTF!

Happy caching!

CONGRATS TO FLOYDFREAK FOR FTF!!!!!!!!!!!!
