Reit im Winkl – Gletschermühlenfeld

Dieser Earthcache führt zu einem seltenem
Gletschermühlenfeld, welches während der letzten Eiszeit geformt
wurde. Der Weg mag im Sommer auch für Kinderwagen oder Rollstühle
geeignet sein.
Karrenfeld und Gletschermühlenfeld
Das
Gletschermühlenfeld wurde 1953 von Pfarrer Wiesheu neben dem
Wimmerkreuz entdeckt. 1984-1985 wurde dieses Feld unter einer
dünnen Schicht von Randmoränen freigelegt.
Diese Art des geformten Karrenfeldes ist recht selten. Das
Karrenfeld wurde vor der letzten Eiszeit (Würmeiszeit) etwa vor
50.000-60.000 Jahren geformt. Solche Karrensysteme können in
voreiszeitlich gebildeten Steinformationen weltweit beobachtet
werden. In diesem Fall erhebt sich ein Rundhöcker vom übrigen
Gelände und zeigt die Steinformation. Die Kluftkarren und teilweise
erkennbaren Rinnenkarren wurden teilweise durch Boden- und
Vegetationseinflüssen zu Rundkarren erweitert.
Gegen Ende der Würmeiszeit (vor 10.000-12.000 Jahren) haben die
Steine eine weiter Überformung erfahren. Die Schmelzwasser des
Achengletschers erzeugten ein Gletschermühlenfeld.
Log Bedingungen
Um den Cache zu
loggen, bitte ich darum ein Foto von Euch zu machen und im Log zu
posten (seit 1.1.11 optional) sowie mir die Antworten zu den
folgenden Fragen zu mailen (Du brauchst nicht auf eine Antwortmail
warten sondern darfst gleich loggen. Sollten die Antworten nicht
stimmen, melde ich mich).
1. Foto: Mach ein Foto an den Koordinaten von Dir auf der
Holzbrücke (GPS sichtbar) über dem Gletschermühlenfeld und lade es
in Deinem Log hoch (seit 1.1.11 optional - ich freue mich dennoch
über ein Bild)
2. Frage: Warum entstehen die Rinnen und Klufte im
Kalkstein?
3. Frage: Wie sind die zusätzlichen Mühlenlöcher entstanden und
was findet man oft am Boden des Loches?

Limestone Pavement and Mill Field
This glacial mill field was discovered 1953 by bishop
“Wiesheu” next to the „Wimmerkreuz“.
This formed stone field is kind of rare. The area of the stone
formations was formed out of a preglacial limestone pavement during
the last glacial period (Würmeiszeit - 50.000-60.000 years ago).
Limestone pavements can be found in many previously-glaciated
limestone environments around the world.
In this case a rather huge roche moutonnée lifts out of the valley.
Limestone pavement has typically formed slabs called "clints"
isolated by deep fissures called "grikes". In this specific
limestone pavement you see some remaining shapes of those cracks
and gutter channels.
At the end of the last glacial period (Würmeiszeit –
10.000-12.000 years ago) the already shaped stones were submitted
by an additional forming caused by the run through of the
“Achengletscher” and its melting water to a so called
glacier mill field.
Log permission
To log this
earthcache you have to take a picture (since 1.1.11 optional) and
mail me the two answers to the following questions (don't wait for
a log permission, I will contact you if the answers are not
correct):
1. Take a picture of you on the wooden footbridge over the stone
field showing you with you GPSr an upload it to the log. (since
1.1.11 optional)
2. Why does limestone have these typically formed cracks and
gutter channels?
3. How are the “mills” created and what do you found
sometimes still on the bottom of the hole?
