Geocache Description:

Another "History Cache". Large container hidden near Dry Beaver Creek where a ranch once stood. Easy find for a geocacher but please re-hide it well so no one stumbles across it by accident. Requires a moderate hike or mountain bike ride.

Many "old timers" believe this old ranch site was an early Way Station (more modern - "stage stop") serving the wagon road from Rimrock up the creek to a fork in the road that led to Red Rock (Sedona), Beaver Head Flat and on to Oak Creek (Cornville) and one fork led up over the rim to Stoneman Lake and on east. There is a note in the cache if you want to take time to read it that tells a little of the history of the area (please don't take it). This cache started with a bunch of Match Box Cars to celebrate "travel" on the old trails.

Watch for SNAKES! Watch for FLASH FLOODS! WATCH THAT YOU DON'T HAVE TOOOO MUCH FUN!!!

Probably the best path to hike into this cache is to go to Cache_Monkey's cache, Dry Creek Vista GC8XCPH, hike south around the west side of the hill you find there and work your way north-east towards the creek where you will eventually find a trail that leads to where you can cross the creek and turn more northerly to the cache. This is still a challenging hike, so plan ahead and go prepared. Use your satellite map to plan ahead. (Thank you to Jello Jeep for blazing this trail...!)

FR #9235N used to go all the way through to Cornville Road near the Mixing Table in Rimrock. It is now washed out and the road was closed to all vehicle traffic and the gate was locked at highway 169 (More "public access denied to the public by the Federal Government).

You may be able to get within a mile of the cache by driving down a forest road that leads to the creek north of the cache and just south of the more recent Stage Stop Monument. There are some Ponderosa Pines growing along the creek that are interesting... what are they doing in the desert? I'll leave it to you to find the right road if you wish to hike in.
