Geocache Description:


Land parcels for the 6100+ acre Jefferson Memorial Forest have been purchased over time as privately held land tracts became available. Because of this a puzzle like land pattern has been created throughout the forest. Some tracks are isolated and are rarely visited by the public. Unlike Bernheim and Knobs State Forest, boundary lines within JMF are usually not marked. There are also very few posted no trespassing signs which makes it easy in some areas to venture on to private property without knowing it.
One definition of Backwoods is any remote or isolated area. Because of the remote location of this cache series the name certainly applies. The difficulty and challenge of these caches are first in determining the optimum access point without crossing private land and then choosing the best way to bushwhack to and between the caches while staying on public land. These caches most likely will only be visited by the most adventuresome brave backwoods explorers.
The Dodge Hill Backwoods caches are a particular challenge because currently there is no place to park for easy legal access. Walking along or crossing railroad tracks is not legal access and is highly discouraged. My journey took 8.6 miles to hide the 9 caches in this area, but of course I took the scenic route. Your distance should be shorter depending on where you park and your route.  Before entering this area please visit the Jefferson Memorial Forest web site and familiarize yourself on the land boundaries. The cache is a large RX bottle that contains only a log and pencil, hidden near a nice view of Dodge Gap down below.  Because of the remoteness of the hide a generous (spoiler) hint has been provided. Your journey here is as important as the cache itself and hopefully a DNF can be prevented that might otherwise slightly tarnish a great adventure in the backwoods of JMF.
