Geocache Description:

Oneida Stake Academy
A very neat history of this beautiful building can be read here: (click here).

After the emigration to and settlement of the mountain west areas of the United States, the LDS Church set up a number of "stake academies", which mainly provided secondary education due to the lack of public schools in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. A few of these academies eventually evolved into colleges or universities. Most, however, were closed with the emergence of public school districts.

This building was then turned over to the State and used as the Preston High School. As the school needed to grow the current High School was built in the 40's and slowly this building was not used and closed.

In 2003 it was doomed to destruction when a miracle happened and they raised over 1 million dollars to move the acadamey center to its current location where it is still under going renovation. Once done it will be again open to the public.
