The name for this cache comes from the song "American Pie" by Don Maclean. The chorus goes: "Bye, Bye Miss American Pie, Drove my Chevy to the Levee, But the Levee was dry. Them good old boys were drinking whiskey and Rye Singing, 'This will be the day that I die'. This cache commemorates the death of Buddy Holly, Richie Valens, and the Big Bopper in a plane crash. This is on what used to be called "Bench Lake", but is now a flood control project. I've never seen water in it, however. The cache is hidden in an obvious place once you get to the spot, (a very lonely tree) but may be a stretch to recover and replace. It would be good to bring someone who has a long reach. Please replace in the tree and not just hanging down. Do not drive out to the cache if it is wet. You might get stuck in the clay for awhile. Please replace the cache carefully.
