Geocache Description:

The cache is NOT at the listed coordinates

The letters I.R.A conjur up all types of thoughts and fear amongst somet. Most people would recognise the IRA as being the Irish Republic Army with their outspoken views in Northen Ireland.

For us here in the Illawarra, the I.R.A refers to our very own Illawarra Regional Airport. It was built back in the 40's as part of RAAF Albion Park. It has since gone onto service Rex Airlines and Qantaslink at varying times, but primarily is home to a growing light aeronautics industry and the historical aircraft restoration society (HARS), which regularly hold public open days.

The cache is located at S34° 3Y.WOL E150° 4A.BCD To find out what the missing letters are you'll need to do a little bit of homework.
  • Approaching from the south the runway is referred to as No: = B4
  • In what year was the airport built = 19W1
  • What is the elevation of the airport? Add these 2 digits together = O
  • MTOW for the airport (t). Add these 2 digits together = A
  • The length of the East/West runway (m) = 13Y1
  • Approaching from the north the runway is referred to as No: = 1L
