Geocache Description:

This is the description of a puzzle cache. The cache is not at the posted coordinates. You'll need to solve the puzzle below to learn the actual coordinates.

This puzzle is designed to be solved in tandem with Sailors and Saints, which is a puzzle cache in Seaside, Oregon. Unless you're prepared to make two round trips to Oregon, we suggest that you enlist a partner in Oregon to find Sailors and Saints while you find Saints and Sailors. We prefer that you partner with someone who hasn't already solved the puzzle.

You may be able to find a partner by posting at http:/www.oregongeocaching.com/phpBB3 or by looking for a posting by an Oregon geocacher at https://www.facebook.com/UtahGeocaching. Alternatively, you could try posting a note to this cache as well as to Sailors and Saints. The two of you will be visiting historic monuments and doing a bit of arithmetic.

Monument 1

The first monument is located at the posted coordinates, where you must find the answers to these two questions:

(A) How many distinct people are named on the monument?

(B) How many long (8-9 foot) slats are used in each bench?

This will give you two numbers, A and B. Your partner in Oregon will also be visiting a monument to learn two numbers, U and V. The two of you should share your numbers.

Monument 2

The second monument is (.107 × A) + (.300 × U) minutes north and (1.054 × B) - (.004 × V) minutes west of the first monument. At the second monument you must answer two more questions:

(C) How many acres were transferred?

(D) How many circular openings are in the wall?

This will give you two more numbers, C and D. Your partner in Oregon will be visiting a second monument to learn W and X. The two of you should share your numbers.

Monument 3

The third monument is (.052 × C) + (.017 × W) minutes south and (.359 × D) - (.012 × X) minutes west of the second monument. At the third monument, answer two final questions:

(E) How many bricks form the outer surface of the monument, including the bricks hidden by plaques?

(F) How many children did the subject of the monument have?

This will give you two last numbers, E and F. Your partner in Oregon will also be obtaining two last numbers, Y and Z. Once again, you should share your numbers.

The Final

The cache container is hidden (1.482 × E) - (.22 × Y) minutes south and (.391 × F) - (.271 × Z) minutes east of the third monument.

When you log your find, please tell us who your partner was. Please contact us if you have any questions or need anything clarified.

Amen!

Congratulations to gotwings and WindBeneath for being first to find.
