Geocache Description:

The cache is located in a small inner-city garden so named as a tribute to the volunteers of Wellington.

"Celebrating volunteers, ordinary people ... extraordinary contributions."

The garden has had a strong association with volunteers since 2001 when it was chosen as a spot to celebrate the International Year of Volunteers (IYV). A specially hybridised camellia bush called "Volunteer" was planted here to mark the year. Volunteers also planted other trees and plants including azaleas, hebes, lancewoods and native grasses.

June 2002 saw the unveiling of a plaque commemorating volunteers. Another ceremony was held in December 2003 in memory of William Holden, a committed volunteer and member of the IYV group.

The cache holds only a logsheet. Please bring your own pen. The cache is easily accessible, without disturbing the living plants in the garden. However, a high degree of stealth is required when finding and replacing the cache.

Update (31 May 2009): The cache has been moved south-east to a hopefully more secure location.

Update (16 August 2015): The cache has been moved back to the recently refurbished Volunteer Corner side.
