"La Ghirada" è una località del comune di Treviso, nei pressi di San Zeno, a sud del centro storico. Il nome deriva dal veneto "girada", cioè "girata", "svolta" poiché questa era una zona paludosa e impraticabile, in cui i passanti, giuntivi al limitare, erano costretti a girare o svoltare, cioè a tornare indietro.

Oggi invece la situazione è ben diversa. Il Gruppo Benetton infatti, ha dato vita nel 1982 ad una struttura unica, “La Ghirada-Città dello Sport”, 220.000 metri quadri di oasi verde a due passi dal centro di Treviso, aperta a tutti, non ci sono sbarramenti o cancelli,l’ingresso è libero, con oltre 1000 persone al giorno che fruiscono delle molteplici attività del centro.

Qui si allenano anche le grandi squadre della città, come la Sisley Volley, la Benetton Rugby e la Benetton Basket.

Del polo, che si estende per circa 22 ettari, fanno parte anche altri centri dissociati territorialmente, come il Palaverde (a Villorba) e il Golf Club di Asolo (a Asolo).

"La Ghirada" is a location outside the city of Treviso, near San Zeno area, south of the historical center. The name derives from the venetian language "girada", or in other words "girata", "svolta" meaning "to turn", since this was a swampy and unfeasible area, where people, arriving at its zone limit, where forced to turn around and walk back.

Today the situation is way different. The Benetton Group infact has created in 1982 a unique structure, "La ghirada-Città dello Sport" (The ghirada-Sport city), 220.000 square meters of green oasis, a short walk from the city center, open to everyone, with no barricades or gates, the entrance is free, with more than 1000 people a day that use the various activities the center can offer.

This is the training ground for the various city teams, such as Sisley Volley, the Benetton Rugby and the Benetton Basket.

Other parts of the sport polo, which extendes for about 22 hectars, are the Palaverde (in Villorba) and the Asolo golf club (in Asolo), both territorialy out of the Ghirada area.
