Geocache Description:

Welcome back to Thomson, Georgia!!

The 2nd annual Thomson Treasure Hunt will be held in Thomson, Ga. on Saturday, May 2nd!

Several of you asked for some extra caching time while in town, so after the CITO, you will have at least a couple of hours to do some caching. Please continue to watch the cache page as more details become available. Here is a tentative schedule: 9:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m.: Once we leave the CITO, we will head to the McDuffie Public Fishing Area (coordinates for the exact location to meet will be added soon.) Pilgrimsprogress is planning several caches for the kids to find. Each will contain prizes for the kids, so we really need a headcount on how many kids will be participating. For the big kids, we will have at least two new caches hidden at the ponds. One of them will only be accessible via boat. Pilgrimsprogress and salutations will bring their kayaks for everyone to use to retrieve this one, so don't worry about having to find watercraft.

1:15p.m. until 4 p.m. Informational sessions We hope to have sessions on paperless caching, using the various stats applications out there, a snake session by folks who track them using GPS receivers and maybe a member of the local bomb squad. We are also looking for suggestions as to what you would like to see covered.

4 p.m.-6 p.m. Poker Run The Poker Run was a very popular part of last year's event and we'll bring it back again. Thefourfreys are going to set this one up for us. We will collect our cards and see who wins the big prizes this year.
The annual Poker Tournament will kick off at 7p.m.
Entry fee is two different, unactivated geocoins.

As with all of the associated events, please log you intent to attend as soon as you know that you will. We are working on a coin and t-shirts, so drop an email to us if you are interested in shirts or coins. We will see what type of response we get in order to determine how many to have minted and printed.

If you plan on Camping, there are two campgrounds in McDuffie County: Big Hart 24 hr water/electric hookups (30-amp) 7 non-site hookups Group tent area (includes large picnic shelter with 30-amp service) $75 per night for the group area (not suitable for RVs) Family sites range from $14-18, two tents or one RV/one tent Leashed or penned pets allowed Gates open at 7am and close at 10:30pm Raysville All-electric campground. All 55 sites are equipped with electric and water hookups. Site fees range from $18-20 per night and the same rules apply as Big Hart. Some members of the CSRA group are recommending Raysville because it is a little closer to Thomson. It will fill up fast for that weekend though, so better make those reservations soon.

Also, three Hotels are offering group rates for the event: Holiday Inn Express is offering a rate of $72.99, plus tax. White Columns (Best Western) is offering King & Double rooms for $71.19 and Queens for $61.99, plus tax. All of Best Westerns room come with a free hot breakfast. Courtyard is offering the group a rate of $80, plus tax. Just mention the Thomson Treasure Hunt for the discount.

Keep watching the cache page for more details as they become available!

UPDATES: Camping spaces are now $22 per night. I will have coordinates updated on 4/26 so we will all know where to meet for the Public Fishing area portion of the event. The kayaks will only hold one, but salutations will also try to bring a small jon boat (maybe someone could bring a couple of paddles, ours are not the best.)

We need headcounts on the number of kids participating in the ponds events so that pilgrimsprogress will be able to plan accordingly.

Also, for the kickoff dinner, we need an accurate count and the type of meal you prefer. They are going to bring both, but we need a pretty accurate count.

IMPORTANT NEW UPDATE: The coordinates for meeting at the McDuffie Ponds are 33.23.276 and 82.25.212. Can't wait to see everyone there at 9:00 am on Saturday.

There will be kids caches for children ages 1 through 12.

The kayak cache will be for all ages, however, if under 18 must have permission of parent or guardian.

There will be one cache hidden for ages 13 to 17 --- however, once this cache is found it belongs to the teenager who finds it. The name of this cache will be Guts!
