The first drive-in theater opened in Camden, New Jersey in June 1933. In the 1950’s, at the height of their popularity, there were about 3,775 drive-ins in the United States, with 76 of them located in West Virginia. The Grafton Drive-In opened in 1949. It has a capacity of 250 cars. It is one of nine drive-ins that remain operational in West Virginia today. It is also one of the three that continues to use the traditional drive-in speakers exclusively for the movies’ audio. If you have never been to a drive-in or it has been a while since you have, stop by one weekend for a double feature movie. The Grafton Drive-In is open from April thru October.
Living in Grafton all of my life, I have been fortunate that I have never known life without a drive-in theater. I have several fond memories of watching movies as a child lying on a blanket, on a warm summer night, “under the stars” of the sky and silver screen.
This magnetic micro contains only a log, so bring your own pen! There is also a FTF prize (a geocache pin). Please note that the cache is not located on the grounds of the drive-in. Good luck!
Congratulations to Aquacache on his FTF!
