Geocache Description:

This cache is an Altoids tin. Enjoy the drive on the great west side of Fresno County.
Log only---BYOP

This cache is located on the California State Historical marker #488, located on SR 180 state historical marker that indicated the first settlement of Fresno City. (Fresno means Ash tree in Spanish) 'Fresno City' gradually arose at the head of navigation of the Fresno Slough, and existed from approximately 1855 to 1875 - today there are no traces of it left. Location: On Fresno Slough, 0.8 mi N of James Rd, from Tranquillity, then 1.3 mi NW on levee rd (dirt), Tranquillity. If you stand at the marker and look south, about 7 miles away was the town. In 1872, the 'City of Fresno,' later the county seat, was established about 30 miles to the southwest, on the newly built Central Pacific Railroad, Fresno Station. The story of the missing plaque is that metal thieves stole it.
