Sleepy Creek Wilderness Area - this cache is the first one in the area if you come up from Shanghai on Hampshire Road. There are a good mix of caches here - from easy to hard and micro to large cache boxes. Some will be a blast for the kids and others will be a real challenge for the experienced cacher. Some are very unique cache containers the kids will enjoy and some will take some thought and imagination. I can guarantee at least one will make an impression you won't forget. Enjoy!
This cache is located in Sleepy Creek Wildlife Management Area near Martinsburg, West Virginia in Morgan County. Sleepy Creek WMA is located on 22,928 acres, mostly covered with mixed oak and pine forest, although about 3,500 acres are covered with mixed hardwoods. For more information about this wildlife area visit (visit link) I find that by going to Shanghai and coming up Hampshire Road, it's much better road to access Sleepy Creek Wilderness area. This one is right off the road.
Bring the kids to enjoy this Wildness State Park. Fishing opportunities in the 205-acre Sleepy Creek Lake include largemouth bass, bluegill, crappie, and northern pike. There are 75 rustic camping spots. Wildlife in the park include deer, grouse, squirrel, turkey, bobcat, fox, and raccoon.
As in any Wilderness area watch for snakes in season. I would not attempt this cache in deer season for this park gets lots of hunting activity.
This is the easiest grab of all the Sleepy Creek Caches. They get a little tougher after this one. Small trade items and travelers should fit.
