Geocache Description:

THE SPILLWAY

The Spillway is an overflow system for Lake Argyle, acting as a safety valve when high flood conditions are prevailing.

This fast flowing water spillway was blasted through a granite hill, creating a 2.2 kilometre channel section, to provide a natural overflow facility. The run off flows back into the upper reaches of Lake Kununurra.

In 1995 a six metre plug was put in the mouth of the spillway in order to increase the head of water available for the Hydro Power Station.

This photo was taken in the Wet Season and the flowing water will be much less in the Dry Season.
