This is the site of the first church in Primrose, the village was latterly known this, the family name of the Earl of Rosebery.
"A village and a parish in the south of Edinburghshire. The village, sometimes called Primrose, stands 3 furlongs from the south Esk's left bank, 2 miles West South West of Gorebridge station, 3 miles South East of Hawthornden and 5¼ miles south by west of Dalkeith.” The church of St Kentigern was consecrated on the 2nd of May 1243 by David de Bernham, who was chamberlain of King Alexander II of Scotland and subsequently became Bishop of St. Andrews. This is the final resting place of the Ramsays of Whitehill House in nearby Rosewell, which was built by William Burn and David Bryce in 1844 for Wardlaw Ramsay. It later belonged to a religious order and was used as a hospital. It is now a golf course. The Ramsays were local coal barons and owners of the Lothian Coal Company which was formed in 1890 from Newbattle and Whitehill Pits. The Whitehill Pit provided material for a neighbouring brickworks. There are still lots of buildings and walls in the area built from Whitehill bricks.

Please replace as found and there is no need to dismantle anything to access this cache.
