Geocache Description:

The cache location will bring you to a view of South Field. The cache container is a micro container and contains just a log (bring your own pen/pencil). The hide has the difficulty of a lamp post cache, but I hope the information below makes it a little more interesting than a lamp post cache.

Located near the north end of the original Garfield Park neighborhood, South Field was a football field where President Geral R. Ford was a high school football star. The image below is of a snowy game on the field in 1950.

During the race riots of 1967, South Field's proximity to the neighborhoods hit hardest by the riots caused it to be abandoned. The field facilities were torn down and it now serves as a holding basin for water run-off.

I've driven past here on more than one occasion and wondered what this place was. The information and photo explaining this area was found in:
"Heart & Soul - The Story of Grand Rapids Neighborhoods".

**No need to enter the fenced in area.**

Congrats to Tom_Kat for the First to Find!!!
