Geocache Description:

The scenery is spectacular at this lock-and-lock sized cache. The trail is short (1/10 mile, maybe) but the terrain is steep.

Bixby Bridge Cache

Beautiful and I were out this wonderful weekend with hopes of hiking Pfeiffer Big Sur upper regions but the park is closed so it was not to be. Ditto for the upper trails of Andrew Molera SP. So on the way back up to Garrapata SP State Park (where we did get to hike to our hearts content) we stopped at the very scenic Bixby Creek Bridge for a little break. While exploring the “trails” that lead down to the beach, we decided to place a cache to celebrate this location’s beauty.

The Bixby Creek Bridge of Highway 1 is California's favorite coastal bridge. This bridge not only connects travelers to their destination but connects travelers with nature. The Bixby Bridge was completed in 1932 and is a marvel of engineering. It’s one of the top ten highest single span bridges in the world.
The bridge spans across a Bixby Creek canyon along the Big Sur Coastline, about 18 miles south of Carmel. It is 714 feet long, 24 feet wide, over 280 feet (85 m) high and has a main span of 320 feet. It is one of the most photographed features on the West Coast.
To get to the cache, take the trail from the lookout pull-over down to about the half way point. A side trail veers off to the left (and presumably continues under the bridge) – take that for a short distance to GZ.

“Trailhead” coordinates (note: trail is De Facto only, that is it is a trail by usage only – not by demarcation): N36 22.345 W121 54.167 (See also Touchstone’s Thurso's Landing cache [GCTA0B] for related info)

That said, retrieval of this cache is not for small children. Teens could make it but need supervision and parents discretion. This trail is steep and not to be taken lightly!

The Cache
The cache is an Tupperware-type container full of pretty decent swag.
