If you plan on a visit to the Cooks be sure to set aside some time for a visit to the beautiful island of Aitutaki. It is about a 40 min flight from the international airport on the main island of Rarotonga. Aitutaki has a wonderful "feel" of laid back friendliness and genuine personal warmth. It is well worth the visit. You can easily pedal bike around the island in a few hours, although most people will rent a scooter or a small car sometime during their visit. If you plan on visiting the island, I would suggest you set aside at least 3 days - we spent 7 days and could have easily stayed longer.
About the cache:
The cache is on the main island of Aitutaki and can be easily driven to. It is hidden in the small village of Vaipae on the east side of the island. We placed the cache in a spot which typifies island life. The cache is a 1L cylindrical, plastic peanut butter container.
My home is in Canada, so I thought it would be fun to give the cache a national feel by adding some contents which are representative of my country or have a Canadian logo on them. If you choose to add to the cache and can place something from your home, that would be great, but isn't a requirement.
Please be careful of muggles and respect the location.
When we were in Aitutaki we stayed in a resort and absolutely loved the time we spent there. The owners were interested in my geocaching hobby and kindly volunteered to maintain the cache for me, given my great distance from home. Thank you to Jo-Anne and Jim Brittijn for helping with this.
