Welcome to
Hoffman Park in Union Township, Hunterdon County. This cache
will fulfill your “SIERRA”
requirement for the
Central Jersey Checkpoint Challenge.
Please Note: The park gate is open from 9 a.m. to sunset.
Although a SIERRA will not
be visable, the vista as seen from the top of the park offers a
wonderful view of Hoffman's fields and forests, as well as Spruce
Run Reservoir and the hills of the Highlands in the distance. This
353 acre park is comprised of hardwood forest, grasslands, and 32
ponds of various sizes. Most of Hoffman Park's trails are old
gravel or paved roads that are flat and easy to hike, bike, or push
a stroller on. The park trails are also listed within the "Best
Hikes with Dogs: New Jersey" Guide Book, and I must say that while
I was there I saw some of the most beautiful dogs I have ever seen.
A
Trail Map can be seen and printed from here.
Hoffman Park is the former farm of Albert and Joyce Hoffman. Mr.
Hoffman and his two brothers owned the Hoffman Beverage Company,
which was founded by their father. The company's reputation for
distributing many varieties of beverages earned Mr. Hoffman the
nickname: the "Soda-Pop King".
-
So bring your bike, your dog, your hiking stick, or just
yourself, but don't forget your GPSr to claim Checkpoint
SIERRA. There are lots of fun
"S" related
swag items waiting in the cache. Why
not bring along something that begins with an
"S" to trade.
- Make sure to document the number clue included in the cache.
You will need it to determine the location of the Checkpoint
Challenge Final Cache location.
- And bring your camera to photo-document your signature if you
want to claim one of the 27 coins being offered to the first 27
takers who complete the challenge successfully. See details
below.

Information
Central Jersey Geocachers are sponsoring the Central Jersey
Checkpoint Challenge series. This challenge series is intended to
take geocachers on a tour of Central New Jersey (loosely defined as
north of 195 and south of 78) while finding caches placed by
Central Jersey geocachers. On the tour we hope you will find
Central Jersey an interesting and beautiful part of our great
state.
This challenge series includes 26 checkpoint caches (naming
based on the NATO phonetic alphabet) and the final -
Central Jersey Checkpoint Challenge (GC1NJAZ). The 26
checkpoints do not have to be completed in any particular order.
See the
CJCheckpoint Bookmark for the complete list of caches.
Hidden within the 26 checkpoint caches are numbers to be used to
calculate the coordinates of the final Central Jersey Checkpoint
Challenge cache – please be sure to note them while you are
there.
While there are no special logging requirements for the 26
checkpoint caches, there are special logging requirements for the
Central Jersey Checkpoint Challenge cache final. Complete
information can be found on the Central Jersey Checkpoint Challenge
cache page. In order to claim FTF on the Central Jersey Checkpoint
Challenge (GC1NJAZ) you must log a find on this and all the other
Checkpoint caches. To claim one of the 27 CeNeJeGeCa coins that
will be available you MUST include a picture of your signature from
EACH of the 26 checkpoint log books in your log on the Central
Jersey Checkpoint Challenge cache final, AND a picture of yourself
with the claim coupon for that coin must be taken at the cache
final location.
Happy caching and enjoy the Central Jersey Checkpoint
