Last year we joined forces with the Monmouth County Parks trails
team volunteers and helped clean up an old dumping area along the
creek South of Marlu Lake. This year we'll be making a return trip
to finish the job!
When: Saturday April 25th 2009 - from 9:00 AM to 12:00
PM.
Please arrive at the posted coordinates 15 minutes early to
register with the parks department and and sign the event log book.
Let us know if you are attending at least a week before the event
as the park would like a good approximation of how many cachers are
participating.
Where: Thompson Park, Lincroft, Monmouth County, New
Jersey.
The park is located on Newman Springs Road (County Route 520)
and features 14 miles of multiple-use trails, a playground, tennis
courts, a fishing lake for canoes/kayaks, Creative Arts Center,
off-leash dog area and a half dozen geocaches.
The Cleanup:
Last year we took a few tons of bottles, scrap metal,
furniture, car parts, old fencing & other miscellaneous trash
out of the ravine. This year we'll be moving further down the
proposed trail to finish up. Bring clothing that you don't mind
getting dirty (long pants & sleeves) and a sturdy pair of work
gloves. Everything else will be provided. Boots are recommended
because we'll be working on the slope above the stream. Anyone may
attend and get credit for the event but, for insurance reasons,
only cachers 14 years and older may participate in the actual
clean-up. If you have any questions regarding the clean-up, park or
event, don't hesitate to ask. You can follow the discussion on the
Central Jersey Geocaching site and also
contact the
Monmouth County Parks volunteer coordinator directly for more
information.
The Picnic: There will be a small picnic after the event
in the East picnic area near the basketball courts.

We'll provide the basics for the grill. Feel free to bring anything
special you'd like to munch/drink!
