NJCC: Usborne Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

OReviewer: From the Northern Region Office, New Jersey State Parks Department:

Over a year ago New Jersey enacted a policy that all geocachers must obtain a permit to have their cache on State Park property. We have informed all geocaching host that this is their responsibility and have given them ample time to go about getting their permits. At this time, over a year later, there are still several caches that haven’t complied.

We ask that as the land managers for the attached properties we would like to have these illegal caches removed.

Based on the list provided by the state, I am forced to archive this listing. If you have a permit, get a permit or don't believe your cache is on state park/forest land, please contact me via email. Make sure you include the GC code.

If you don't plan to get a permit, please remove your geocache so it doesn't become geo-trash.

North Jersey Checkpoint Challenge
Checkpoint Usborne

North Jersey Checkpoint Challenge

Welcome to Ghost Lake along Shades of Death Road in Independence Township, NJ. This cache will fulfill the “Usborne” requirement for the North Jersey Checkpoint Challenge.

Jenny Jump Forest is located in a few different locations in this general vicinity of Warren County. The Ghost Lake section has a car-top launch for small boats. The only motors allowed are electric. The main part of the park has campsites, cabins and trails. While the terrain to the cache is a 2, if you go past the cache and visit the nearby Fairy Hole Cave, the terrain goes up to a 3.5. I've included this as a waypoint.
If you are wondering why I picked this spot, I used to live up the road from here in Allamuchy Twsp and loved the road name. Actually according to a yahoo.com survey it ranked #8 of unique street names in our nation. I just thought I'd bring cachers back to this spot as another quirky place in NJ. If you click on the link to Shades of Death Road, you will learn some odd things.
To give you a geography lesson,Mount Osborne is a mountain located on East Falkland Island. At 2312' above sea level it is the tallest one of these islands. The Falkland Islands are located in the south Atlantic Ocean about 300' off Argentina's coast.

Official NJCC Information

The Northern New Jersey Cachers (NNJC) are sponsoring the North Jersey Checkpoint Challenge series. This challenge is intended to take geocachers on a tour of Northern New Jersey (loosely defined as north of I-78) while finding caches placed by members of the NNJC. On the tour, we hope you will find North Jersey an interesting and beautiful part of our great state.

Scattered around the area are 26 checkpoint caches and a final challenge cache - North Jersey Checkpoint Challenge (GC1NNJC). The names of the individual checkpoint caches are based on a phonetic alphabet using mountain names since North Jersey is the mountainous region of the state. The 26 checkpoints do not have to be completed in any particular order. See the NJCheckpoint bookmark for the complete list of caches.

Hidden within the 26 checkpoint caches are numbers to be used in determining the coordinates of the final North Jersey Checkpoint Challenge cache – please be sure to note them while you are there.

While there are no special logging requirements for the 26 checkpoint caches, there are special logging requirements for the final challenge cache. Complete information can be found on the North Jersey Checkpoint Challenge (GC1NNJC) cache page.

Happy caching and enjoy the North Jersey Checkpoint Challenge!!!
