"I have recently been given the assignment to remove unpermitted geocaches on the American River Parkway, that are located on islands. Please refer to our geocaching policy located here:
http://www.regionalparks.saccounty.net/Rangers/Pages/GeocachingatRegionalParks.aspx. Permit applications are also available from this page, however island locations do not comply with policy and will not be accepted.
The river islands provide the highest level of safety for nesting birds and fawning does as well as providing a safe escape for all wildlife from predators and dogs. While we don’t specifically prohibit folks from exploring the islands, there shouldn’t be attractions added to them. Furthermore, the Department has been receiving complaints about the island caches."
