Farnham Ramble Rally #1 – Starter for Ten Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Kitey: The lack of visitors in the past few years was unfortunately making this series extremely high maintenance. On the last check 4 out of 5 caches had disappeared or were inaccessible due to changes in their locations. So time to go and free up the space for future caches. Thanks all who visited, we hope that you enjoyed the series.

Geocache Description:

The Farnham Ramble Rally (aka FRR) - A Series of 34 caches in a single loop around the Farnham area, with a few twists and turns to keep you on your toes, and consisting of interesting and challenging caches (we hope). Caching sticks will be kept to an absolute minimum. There is also a Bonus Cache that can be found when the series has been completed.

The route passes through the middle of Farnham and then circles round in the countryside to the North and West of the town, staying just within the western limits of Surrey. The total distance is approximately 8 miles.

To complete the series, you will need to collect a number of clues as you go round. These will be identified in the relevant cache notes, but the complete list is included below for reference. For this reason it will only possible to complete the series in the suggested order (other than the occasional traditional cache). So keep you eyes open and don’t miss anything.

The series has been planned and put together by Kitey and Westley & Buttercup. Responsibility for setting of the caches has been split between us on a section by section basis.

I wouldn’t want to dissuade night cachers, but there are risks involved as the route takes you very close to the River Wey and other water, and gathering the clues required may be very difficult in the dark.

The SW part of this Series is situated on the flood plain of the River Wey. At, and soon after times of heavy rain, it can indeed be flooded. If there is any doubt and you are travelling any distance it may be best to confirm with Kitey or Westley that it is doable. Also bring and wear appropriate footwear.

Those that have already done "Those Green Forgotten Hills" will need to re-visit it to collect the clue. It has recently been moved, so it will seem like a new caching experience.

A small amount of special equipment will be required to complete the series :

2 litres of water (or the means to collect that quantity from local water sources).
A weedling tool to get the logs out of small caches.
Some Tape – Gaffer or Duct or PVC Electrical Insulating tape will do
A few feet of String
A piece of stiff wire, about 9” long, capable of being bent to form a hook.
A print out of this cache page is recommended
A Farnham area OS map would be very useful

A number of other local caches are on or are very close to the route of this series. It is not necessary to complete these in order to complete the series – they don’t contain any clues, but you may want to collect them as you go round. They are :

Cold Turkey (GC1KGGB) – If you dare ….
Time for a Puzzle in Farnham (GC12MVD)
Gostry Meadow Micro (GCV974)
Farnham Close-up (GC2672Z)
Church Micro 1097 - St Peters, Wrecclesham (GC2CKMC)

Let the fun begin ……

A nice close one to get you started. Be very careful with children and geodogs next to this very busy main road.
Please keep the logs small as I don’t want to have to replace it every week. Don’t forget to collect the clue (Y) from the cache, and before you leave the car park make sure you note down the value for H. It is the smaller number you need.

Good Luck.

Well done to the FTF'ers on the series so far : Smudge108 (15), Westie Walker (9), Poodlehead4 (4), figures (3), CUIYC (2), Telkman (1) and Kitey (1).

First cachers to complete the series in one go are Mr Dewdrop & Agrajag2007, taking some 9 hours, including 3 or 4 unrelated caches near the route.
