Geocache Description:

A traditional cache on an undeveloped island, located 1.25 beach miles from the parking area.

This cache is located on Sears Island, in Searsport, and is part of a series of caches intended to show off this beautiful spot. The 900+ acre Island lies in Penobscot Bay, and is attached to the mainland by a man made causeway. The hike around on the beach is about 5 miles (best done between high tides). A dirt road runs the 2 mile length of the island in a north-south direction (turn left halfway up the hill on the paved road). Motorized vehicles are not allowed except for utility workers. Park on the causeway, but don't block the gate. Wear blaze orange during hunting season in the fall. Terrain and conditions vary widely – plan carefully and use common sense.

Storm wreckage is very common along all parts of the island, but the cache area is far enough from the parking that it seldom gets cleaned up by treasure hunters. Two enterprising young men hauled a load of driftwood to the causeway by floating it behind their canoe a few years ago. Clever! Some of the flotsam and jetsam look very old, and stir the imagination.

You can search for this cache from the beach, the roads, a bushwhack, or the water. This cache is about 1.25 miles from the causeway along the beach on the east side of the island. Look for a green ammo box, containing log book and pencils. Starting out with a TB, and a variety of the usual swag. Congratulations to tandemstoker for being First To Find!
