Weird SC: Haunted School Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Ninja Reviewer: As there's been no cache to find for a long time, I'm archiving it to keep it from showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements.

Please note that if geocaches are archived by a reviewer or Geocaching HQ for lack of maintenance, they are not eligible for unarchival.

Geocache Description:

This is located in an overgrown parking lot of an old abandoned school.
It is not on the ground and is a unique container.
DO NOT GO NEAR THE OLD SCHOOL OR INSIDE!

Plenty of parking!

This is #22 in our "WEIRD SC" Series which will consist of caches placed at locations where either ghosts, unknown creatures, or just plain weird things have occurred or exist.

We think our State Motto should change to "Smiling Faces, Haunted Places".

If you find yourself driving through Bennetsville, SC on the way to McColl, about 1 and 1/2 miles from the State line of NC and SC you will come to Piney Grove Church Road.

There is an abandoned old stone school here that is falling apart. It just looks spooky!

The locals say it isn't just looks, though.
Some say you hear voices at night and see lights flashing inside.
Some tell a story of the ghost of an old school janitor who walks the halls at night.

Aries didn't see a thing when he hid it but that was in the daytime. He didn't wait till night to find out!

NOTE: Thanks to gitusum1 for the following info!

Fletcher Memorial School-Erected in 1920 by WB&JA Fletcher for Robert T. Fletcher, the son of WB and Sanai Fletcher, who was killed in WW1 on 1OCT1918. He died in France and his body was later exhumed and brought to the Fletcher Cemetery. Now back to the school- it took 2 years to build, the bricks were imported from Europe. The granite was carried from the town of McColl by horse and wagon-origin of the granite unknown. The school was closed in 1985. The price of the construction was $216,5000 and it sold at auction in 1989 for $15,000.
