Geocache Description:

En lätt multicache. Promenaden fram och tillbaka från parkeringen blir ca. 900 meter

This is an easy multi cache. The walk from the parking and back again will be about 900 meters.

Barnhemsbacken
har fått sitt namn efter Kumla Barnhem som fanns här åren 1908-1951. Under dessa drygt 40 år bodde totalt c:a 1000 barn här. Det fanns ett pojkhem med 10 platser och ett flickhem också med 10 platser.
Här bodde också personalen.
Husgrunderna finns kvar efter några av husen. Tre hus bestod av två våningar, de övriga var ladugård och uthus. Jordkällaren, där matvaror och andra förnödenheter förvarades, är ganska väl bevarad.
Småbruket Kumla barnhem, som det egentligen hette, grundades av kyrkoherden Sven Thelin och hans hustru Carla.
Västmanlands läns landsting var den sista ägaren, som drev barnhemmet 1947-1951.
De flesta och sista byggnaderna revs på 1950-talet.

Barnhemsbacken
has got it´s name from Kumla orphanage that was situated here the years 1908-1951. During these more than 40 years about 1000 children lived here. There was a home for boys and a home for girls, eatch with 10 places.
Also the staff lived here.
The foundations of some of the houses still exists. Three of the buildings had two floors, the others was cow-house and outhouses. The stone-cellar there they keeped food-stuffs and other necessaries is still fairly well preserved.
The small farm,"Kumla barnhem" was established by the vicar Sven Thelin and his wife Carla.
The last owner was the county council of Västmanland, which run the orphanage 1947-1951.
Most of and the last of the buildings were demolished 1950-1960.
