Geocache Description:

From Hwy 260 go east of Overgaard a few miles and take the FS 146 Rd south. There is a small parking/camp two track just off the 146 Rd. DO NOT DRIVE ACROSS THE MEADOW TO THE CACHE.

This cache should be easy to find, but watch out for falling snags. This area burned badly during the 2002 Rodeo/Chediski fire. Once you find the cache, go back towards the 146 road about 150 yards and look for the remnants of a concrete foundation. The meadow also contains a well with a concrete cover. This area was the site of the Lincoln Ranger Station (also known as the Lincoln Guard Station). I don't know when it was last used, but it was used during the 1920's and then was a CCC site during the 1930's. It is a beautiful spot, even though it burned, and the historical site is nearly forgotten. This was an area that contained large oak trees and a few very large Ponderosa Pine trees. I would guess that because it was a work station that the immediate surrounding area wasn't logged. The largest snag, which is about 80 yards west of the cache, was called the Lincoln Tree. It died in the 2002 fire, but still stands, at least at the time of this writing. Be careful when standing underneath it because it looks like it loses an occasional branch.
