Intakte Moore gehören hierzulande zu den wenigen noch erhaltenen Urlandschaften. Ihre Entstehungsgeschichte reicht über 10.000 Jahre bis zur letzten Eiszeit zurück. Wegen der extremen Standortverhältnisse mit dauernder Vernässung und Nährstoffarmut können dort fast nur spezialisierte Pflanzen und Tiere überleben. Viele davon stehen heute auf der Roten Liste bedrohter Arten. In Deutschland gilt nur noch ein Prozent der ursprünglichen Moorflächen als ökologisch intakt.

In this country intact moors belong to a group of a few preserved primeval landscapes. Their origins reach back more than 10.000 years up to the last ice age. Due to the extreme site conditions in connection with permanent water logging and nutrient poverty there are only specified plants and animals that can survive there. Nowadays many of them stand on the Red Lists of threatened Species. In Germany only 1 percent of the original moor surfaces apply to ecological intact.
