Are you impressed by traditional villages? Do you love mountains?
Are you seeking for a new location, somewhere nice to visit no
matter of distance and time?
Well this cache is absolutely for you!
Placed on the mountains at the start of an exciting walking path
this cache will lead you to discover the history of the Lagoudera
village. The village is 15 km from Agros or off the
Kakopetria-Troodos-Lemesos Road (Karvounas crossroad) and it is
close to the "Saranti" village. One of it's absolutely magnificent
attractions is the "Panagia tou Araka". The 12th century church
situated just outside the village has fine frescoes. Together with
Asinou church and that of Agios Nikolaos tis Stegis, it is
considered to be one of the most important Byzantine churches of
the island. Ask for the key and be escorted by the priest, who is
to be found in the premises next to the church. The village is not
at all crowded, there are no more than 100 hospitable
residents.
The mountains of village are part of mountain range of Troodos. The
scenic view will bring you one step closer to mother nature. I
recommend you to go ahead and follow the not very well known
walking path of the mountain where the cache is placed. There is a
lot to see, the peaceful sounds of the birds, the green vegetation;
far away from the exhaust and noise pollution of the city.
In order to reach the cache you have to climb a some meters, and
beware of snakes! Especially in summer time. As I said above the
village is peaceful and silent, no more than 100 residents, so no
one is going to watch you suspiciously or ask you what are you
doing; you are free to do whatever you want. Since the terrain is
not very sustainable I do not recommend bringing young children
with you. If you do have time you may share your
thoughts/experience in the specific paper.
So take your car and your GPS and enjoy this adventure. Once you
arrive you may repeat loudly "Ahh..clean air.."
I can also recommend walking at night; a small walk around the
village or even proceeding to the Saranti village; chatting with
your friend or listening to your favourite tracks with your mp3
player. It is all worth it. Taking your bicycle with you will be
even better. Just be sure to bring enough clothing.
You can also pass your time climbing to the hill of the mountain,
enjoying a 360° panoramic view. If you have the ability take a
beautiful photograph and attach it here that would be great.
Some facilities of
the village you may use are: Restaurant (for food of
course), football playing ground (children that like to
play football perhaps?),mini-market (supplies),church
(religion purposes),cafe (drink and relax)
CACHE FINDING NOTES:
There should be no real problem in finding the cache, it's a 1/2
regular-- almost small- enough big. Searching for it at night -even
if the street lights are on- is not recommended due to the obvious
reasons, it might be cold, snakes you might not see, danger on
falling if you cannot climb well etc. But if you are a risky person
then go for it!
Please have in mind that the cache is not high up in the
mountains; it's just on the start of a mountain walking path,
therefore the climbing is a bit difficult and dangerous -
hiking equipment would be helpful. Just park nearby and walk no
more than 100 meters.
A flat-surfaced item would help you write because there is no good
place to put the log paper so that you can write easily.
CACHE GOAL:
To collect as many traditional items or photos from
different villages from all over the world.
It's preferred that you do not exchange anything so that the
"treasure" is not lost but if there's something you really like go
ahead and grab it.
And of course normal trading of any item or trackable is
allowed.
If all these terms confused you here is a more simple
explanation:
- It is a normal cache just like all the traditional ones but it
has an aim/a goal - to collect as many traditional items as
possible.
- Traditional items may include photos, items like pine
cones, stones, souvenirs etc. Balloons, candles, marbles etc. are not
thought as traditional items they are thought as trading items and
therefore they can be exchanged. They have nothing to do with the
goal.
- The idea is you can leave anything traditional item in the cache
for someone who visits the cache to see and admire, and I said it
is preferred that such traditional items are not exchanged -
because of each one takes a traditional item the "treasure" will
not be much.
Placing traditional items to the cache is not compulsory and
not a requirement. But if you do have something you want to
share it would be really nice.
