Geocache Description:

Magnetic Cache, easilly reached from road

The Parkhead Forge owned by William Beardmore employed up to 20,000 people in the East End of Glasgow. It closed in 1976 but at it's peak it was one of the largest forges in the world. Two giant steam hammers "Samson" and "Goliath" were said to the shake the ground all night in the surrounding area. Huge pieces of steel were forged into gun barrels and other armaments during World War One.

Now the site is almost completely demolished and turned into a shopping centre but this structure, although not one of the giant steam hammers, has been placed as part of local regeneration. A plaque at the site explains more
