Geocache Description:

A nice easy cache in an interesting / picturesque location. Fast running water / deep locks though, so please hold onto your kids hands (you no longer neet to cross the lock to find the cache).

Following flooding, the cache has temporarily been replaced by a magnetic nano ... and coordinates changed

The cache is situated near the River Ouse, on which Naburn Lock is the lowest lock before the river becomes tidal.

This is a great site. Easily accessed by car, bus or Taxi boat from York. There's a great caravan site here too if that's your thing (the site shop is open to all and sells ice creams etc).

... also great for conkers (keep it to yourself !).

Naburn lock has seen some pretty serious flooding over the years (the Ouse rose to 5.4m above usual here in 2002) .. so the cache may end up out at sea if we're not lucky (we may pop back and secure it).

F2F will see:
Log book, Pen, Pencil, Packet of crayons, 2 Squirters, 2 Medals, Ruler and a ‘DUPLObug’ TB, single use camera (please take a pic, put the camera back and let us know - we'll scan/upload later in the year - or when camera full).

UPDATE! After a serious muggling, oggy30 has done a marvellous job of relocating the cache ... not too far away from the prev location. FTF (again) will find new log book, squirters, medal, balloons, bubble bottles and a 'Boba Bug' TB ("Please take me south !").

UPDATE! Following floods, the cache is now a nano, and a little higher :)

Some Googled Naburn Lock history:

A weir was made at Naburn, a mile downstream from the village, in 1741 and a 'dam' or weir and a lock were opened in 1757; the making of the lock cut created an island on which a water-mill was later built. A banqueting house was built near the lock by the trustees of the river navigation 1823. A second, larger, lock was constructed beside the old one in 1888. The original lock-keeper's house was rebuilt in 1823-4, and work done in 1888 included the building of a pair of lock-keepers' cottages.
