Brindellone
Lo “Scoppio del Carro” è una delle più famose manifestazioni folkloristiche fiorentine. Il giorno di Pasqua un carro a tre piani, trainato da due buoi bianchi e preceduto da un corteo di figuranti, si muove dal suo “parcheggio” a Il Prato e raggiunge Piazza del Duomo. Un fil di ferro viene teso tra il carro e l’altar maggiore del Duomo attraverso la porta aperta della chiesa, al “Gloria” un razzo dalla forma di colombina viene acceso e fatto partire verso l’altar maggiore, qui si fermerà e accenderà il razzo di ritorno al carro dove intanto sono incendiati migliaia di fuochi e mortaretti che daranno luogo ad un spettacolo pirotecnico affascinante. Il carro, data la sua altezza, per il suo incedere traballante, è affettuosamente chiamato dai fiorentini ”Brindellone”, come si chiama un ragazzo magro, alto e dinoccolato. L’origine della celebrazione viene fatta risalire alla Prima Crociata, quando il 15 Luglio 1099 i crociati entrarono in Gerusalemme. Il primo a salire sulle mura e issare la bandiera fu il fiorentino Pazzino de’ Pazzi; per ricompensarlo, il comandante Goffredo di Buglione gli donò tre schegge del Santo Sepolcro. Rientrato in patria nel 1101, Pazzino de’ Pazzi fu accolto con i massimi onori ed il giorno di Pasqua fu tradizione donare a tutti i cittadini il fuoco pasquale, da un tripode acceso con le scintille prodotte dallo sfregamento delle schegge. Il tripode venne in seguito portato in giro per la città su un carro, poi il tripode fu sostituito dai mortaretti e la festa prese un aspetto più folkloristico. Si dice che se la colombina percorre il suo tragitto senza fermarsi, sarà di buon auspicio per il raccolto, l’ultima volta che la colombina si è “inceppata” fu nel 1966 e ci fu l’alluvione.. Le schegge sono tuttora conservate nella chiesa dei SS. Apostoli, il Brindellone invece è posteggiato al n.48 de Il Prato, la cache è nascosta lì vicino.
The “Burst of the Cart” is one of the most famous florentine traditional celebrations. On the Easter Day, a three-floor cart, towed by a couple of white cows and preceded by a cortege of figures, moves from its “parking” at Il Prato and reachs Piazza del Duomo. An iron wire is tight between the cart and the high altar of Duomo through the open door, at the “Gloria”, a rocket in a dove-shape is lighted and starts to the altar, here it will stop and will light the return rocket to the cart where, in the meantime, are fired hundreds of crackers and fireworks giving a spectacular and fascinating show. The cart, for his height, is affectionately called by Florentines “Brindellone” (slob) as is called a high, slim and lanky boy. The origin of the tradition is dated back at the first crusade when, on July, 15th 1099 the crusades entered into Jerusalem. The first man to climb the city walls and hoist the flag was the florentine Pazzino de’ Pazzi; to reward him, the Commander Goffredo di Buglione gave him three splinters of the stone of the Holy Sepulchre. Back home in 1101, Pazzino de’ Pazzi was received with all the best honours and on the Easter day was custom to donate to all the citizens the holy fire from a tripod lighted by the sparks from the three splinters. The tripod was later carried on a cart through the city streets, after the tripod was replaced by crackers and fireworks and the celebration took a more popular shape. It is recounted that if the dove runs its way with no stop, this is a good wish for the harvest, the last time that the dove stopped was in 1966 and went the flood… The splinters are still kept in the church of SS. Apostoli, the Brindellone is parked at the n. 48 of Il Prato, the cache is hidden in the nearby.
