Pipe bridge over River Lune
Length of bridge: 324 feet
This bridge was built to carry water from the Lake District to Manchester. The bridge is multi spanned, with stonework abutments and iron work
Over 40 million gallons of water a day are carried over the river Lune by the Aqueduct bridge.
The bridge also is a foot bridge for walkers wishing to cross the Lune at this point.
One Large pipe is separated into four 40,44,44,and 54 inch diameter pipes to cross the bridge. These then combine again into one large pipe almost 3mtrs in diameter. (Large enough to drive a family car through) This then travels the outskirts ofLancaster and Clougha. If you look at clougha you will see some small buildings along its path, These cover the inspection shafts down to the pipe underground.
