Geocache Description:

A decon container up a short but steep trail

This is the another cache dedicated to Fallen Flag railroads. Fallen Flags are those railroads that no longer exist either through abandonment or corporate takeover. With each cache will come a short history lesson explaining a little something about the railroad.

The Mount Morrison Cable Incline Railway was a broad (5'-4") gauge line that carried passengers to the top of Mt Morrison from 1909 to about 1914. The line is noted as only 0.8 miles long. Passengers would get on near the present day building in the Upper North parking lot at Red Rocks and follow the line straight to the top of the mountain. Two cars were used with a cable that ran around a sheave located at the top so one car would decend while the other would ascended. Each car would hold 100 passengers. This particular incline railway was featured in a 1911 issue of Engineering News. Apparently in the advertising of the day this railway was said to have "reaching views not surpassed". As with most of the incline railways, it was a passing fancy to go take the ride and, with limited repeat business, they were doomed to a short life.

From very near the cache location you can look up and down the hillside where the tracks ran.

Parking is available at the North Circle lot and in the North Upper lot.

Remember, this is snake territory. Don't put your hands where you cannot see.
