Fifth in the Sunday Stroll series around Halfpenny
Once over the stiles and into the farmyard, turn right in front of the farm ,out through the gate and up to the crest of the brow where the passing traffic maintain the road width by means of friction! Most of the more established trees on the N side of the road appear as half trees with grind marks from passing vehicles showing on the mutilated trunks. Once past the tiny roadside gardens and the Holly tree at the crest of the hill, the view opens up again over Halfpenny and the valley. There is now a bench just further along the lane. The cache is a micro opposite A13. Stick to the road past Stang wood ignoring all footpath signs to the right and drop into the tiny but pretty Halfpenny village. In the village turn sharp left and climb the next drumlin past Knotts Farm and after a section where the view is blinkered by high hedges, drop back down into Birkrigg Park
