Geocache Description:

Placed adjacent to a bridge which previously went over the Anstruther & St Andrews Railway which was closed in the 1960's as part of the cuts recommended by the infamous Doctor Beechings report to the Government of the day.

Take care where you now park, please.

Crail Railway Station was originally a two platform station, complete with the normal stone built buildings of the time. It was used for the transport of locally caught fish outwards as well as the plethora of incoming Victorian visitors to the seaside. Both 'products' are now, sadly, very much in decline.

Once the line closed the building lay in disuse for some time but was transformed circa 2005 into a garden centre. The garden centre has now closed and there are assorted works under way in the area and so not possible to place a cache at the exact location.

The railway line continued to the north through Kingsbarns, Boarhills, Strathvithie and Mount Melville to St Andrews and onwards and the rail beds are available for walking on a fair proportion of this.

cache placed for the Langspoon 2009 and not loggable until the event. ta....
