ARDEN BOMB SHELTER
With the Nevada Test Site in Nye County, and the Nellis Air Force Base on the edge of the Vegas valley, the Cold War was a real consideration for local authorities. This bomb shelter was built to be the headquarters bomb shelter for the Vegas valley. Created to house 27 men and 9 women in Spartan quarters, it was outfitted with a small medical area, radio equipment for communications for coordinating survival efforts, and rations for the long haul.

The Vegas valley boasted numerous bomb shelters, and authorities felt one needed to be used to maintain communications and control. It was to this shelter that local civic and government leaders would have been relocated in the event of a nuclear strike. Thankfully no bombs were ever dropped, and today the bomb shelter is used for storage by the Clark County Parks and Recreation Department today. Artifacts from the Arden Bomb Shelter can be seen at the Clark County Museum
