They have
been one of America’s favorite families for nearly 20 years now.
They are the longest running American sitcom as well as the longest
running American animated program. Created by Matt Groening and
named after members of his own family. I
can remember watching the Simpsons almost since the show originally
aired on FOX in 1989. I may have only been 7 years old when their
first show aired but I was hooked. Originally created as a
series of short animations in The Tracey
Ullman Show, the show took off from
there. The Simpsons now appear on just about every type of
merchandise, have had a full length motion picture created about
them, have a star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame, and even have a ride
that opened earlier this year in Universal Studios Orlando and
Universal Studios Hollywood. The Simpsons paved the way for a new
boom in Prime Time animated series such as King of the Hill, South
Park, Futurama, Family Guy, and
