Note: Read Cache description and figure out where YOU should park,
Devils Elbow Rd. is the shortest Hike.
A favorite local Hunting/Hiking spot, the Richardson Wildlife
Management area sits off Devil's Elbow Rd. in Brookfield, Ma. It is
accessible by Rte. 148n from Rte 9 in Brookfield center. Devil's
Elbow Rd. trail continues past the parking area for the Preserve,
and has numerous old home sites, and historical markers. We haven't
fully explored all the History at this site, and hope you will
share some pictures and info on some of the things you find on your
explorations of the area. The "Devil's Elbow" portion of the trail
is marked as a "military highway", and was used in revolutionary
and colonial times. Imagine climbing the Devil's Elbow while
pushing or pulling everything you and the Army owns on your way
back to Boston. The subtle signs of history can be awesome and
inspiring, bringing to my mind the many stories that must have been
told along the trail, the smell of the campfires along the way and
the hard work of the many who passed before us. Your hike will take
you from very wet and muddy (most spots can be walked around), to
very very steep and rocky. Please dress accordingly. Your little
ones will find this one very challenging, but many rewarding
lessons lie ahead on the trail. As parents we would say 8 years +,
and able to hike a couple miles is needed. Some billy goat DNA
wouldn't hurt on this one. :) First Marker is a red plastic
folger's coffee can, hidden well. Second Marker is a blue plastic
container hidden in open site. Geocache is a ceramic sealed
canister, brown w/ turquoise markings and his hidden "well".
Contents: Seashells, crayons, bubbles and bubblepipe- be careful of
secondhand bubbles!!, a Mohawk Trail plastic whistle, (no scaring
the wildlife!!) assorted stickers, pencil erasers and junk. TRASH
BAGS- Cache-IN>Trash-OUT :) Enjoy and be sure to check out
Spooner Well our first cache just a mile away.
