Woodland Crossroads Traditional Cache
Cache Sleuth: Archiving this cache due to the hiding place apparently being destroyed by some recent road/trail maintenance. I apologize for the inconvenience to those that hiked such a long way just to come up with a DNF...

A small cache located along Battle Run hiking trail at Summersville Lake, about 4 miles south of Summersville, West Virginia.
The trail goes 3 miles from Battle Run Recreation area, across two dikes with some great scenic views, around the lake through a state wildlife management area, and ends at a managed wildlife feeding plot. The cache is located in an area that's about 1/2 mile from the far end of the trail where at least five old roads intersect, including a cut off section of Old Gad Road (County Route 9) that was bypassed during lake construction.
To get to Battle Run, from U.S. Route 19, go west on State Route 129. If traveling north on Route 19, this is a left-hand turn; if going south, turn right. After about 4 miles, and after you have passed over the dam, you will see the sign for Battle Run Recreation Area on the right. Stay on Route 129. The highway will curve around to the right just after you pass the entrance to Battle Run. As you come out of this curve, on the right you will see a small gravel parking area with space for about six cars and a red gate just beyond. This is the trailhead for Battle Run Trail. Your GPSr will show you as being around a mile from the cache, but the distance by trail is slightly over 3 miles, so you are facing a round trip hike of about 6 miles. There are six other caches along this trail so why not make a day of it and go for all seven - starting with "The Long Trail" cache that's near the parking area and finishing with the "Battle Run" cache which is almost at the end of the trail, about a half mile beyond this hide.
If you are searching for this cache during the summer months when the gate to Battle Run Recreation Area is open, you can shorten the distance you have to hike by turning onto the Recreation Area access road and driving to the end. Park in the nearest space you can find before the pavement ends at the gate for the Shoreline Fishing Access trail. This trail is a gravel road that follows the base of the second dike and eventually intersects Battle Run Trail. If you go this way, you will cut almost 1.5 miles off the round trip distance to and from the cache.
Cache is in a military decon box. Initial contents are: a FTF token, eyeglass cleaner, 2 pencil erasers, 2 fossils, 2 flasher buttons, 2 facial cream samples, 2 glass "gems", lighted keychain, tape measure/level, and a log with pen & pencil.
When finding this cache, please make sure all four corners of the lid snap into place when you are putting it back on. This way the contents will stay dry.
SPECIAL BONUS: If you also log finds on Waymarking.com, be sure to check out the hint picture below and bring a camera with you!
