TECHATTICUP MINE, ELDORADO CANYON
Perhaps the oldest mine in Eldorado Canyon, the Techatticup has been worked on and off since the early 1860s. Its name is a corruption of the Paiute words for food and hungry. It is a hard rock mine, and was the largest employer and producer of gold for many years during the 1860s to the 1880s.

Worked again during the twentieth century, the Techatticup was closed during World War II when any non-strategic mines, including gold mines, were closed by the US government. It is the oldest patented mine in the state of Nevada, and is operated today as a historic tourist site by the Werly family, the current owners, who reopened the mine in the 1990s.
