How Geocaching Works

Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions in our disclaimer.

Geocache Description:

Grill and Chill in the "country" while you sit back and watch and/or entertain others with your efforts to complete a cacher's mini-amazing-race-course designed to be completed on foot, in the shortest time possible. Trophies awarded for the fastest times in four categories.

Long Course (HARE)...designed for the advanced i.e...FOO
Long Course 2-person...designed for those wanting not wanting to go alone i.e. JeepSer
Short Course...Not as physically challenging as long course i.e...Mon'Rose
Family...Must have at least 1 kid under 14 years of age; no more than two adults related to the kid by blood, adoption, or otherwise reasonably responsible for the kid (siblings of the kid 14 and over not counted as adults) i.e... GeocachingNuts

There will also be 10 temporary caches set up in the relatively immediate area that can be done at any time during the event, which will make up a separate "contest" that cachers will be able to do before/after they do the amazing cache course, or if they choose not to do the course at all (but who would do that?). List passed out beginning at 12:30, but you do not need FTFs to win this contest, which will be structured more like a puzzle.

Advising wearing pants to avoid possible contact with poison ivy in some areas.

Amazing-race-cache-course, temp caches, bonfire, smores, burgers and dogs provided. Bring a side to share, a lawn chair, your drink, and a layed back attitude (unless of course your goal is to take home a trophy). Bring your GPS, but don't forget your compass and keen geo-sense.

UPDATE: Cache course and other temporary caches open at 12:30 p.m. to make sure there is time for everyone who wants to to "run the race" and to accomodate those that have plans that might interfere with a later start time on the course; staggered start on the amazing cache course. Grilled food beginning at 6:30 p.m.ish.

Congrats to the following Winners:
Long Course Individual: The NVG. Total time with 8 minutes of penalties: 1 hour 30 minutes
Long Course Couple: The 3Elves. Total time with 6 minutes of penalties 2 hours and 7 minutes.
Family Course: GeoCachingNuts. Total time with 4 minutes of penalties 1 hour and 15 minutes.
... and ... last but certainly not least...
Short Course Team: Beargrylls and Mrs.Foo. Total time with penalties...way too complicated to try to explain, but suffice it to say, they did make it in with the cache containers in hand.

Temporary Cache Contest/Tree ID puzzle winner: Olkb with 17 out of 22 possible points. CubsFanSean Team came in second with 16 points.

Sportsmanship: The 3 Elves
Farthest Rope Climb Before getting Wet: Vicki from PhotoV5
