This cache is dedicated to all the selfless, brave and hard-working EMTs, firefighters, police officers and dispatchers with whom I used to work.
You’re looking for a small, clear container that contains a logsheet and a Kennedy half dollar for the FTF. A quick park n' grab, since those who use this building are often in a hurry. Bring your own pen. Please make sure the container is closed tightly and replaced as found.
Congratulations to Baloo&bd for the FTF!
Genoa Kingston Rescue Squad was formed in 1971, utilizing an old, rebuilt and repainted “Clean Towel Service” truck. The squad truck was housed in the Waterworks Park Building along with the ambulance which was owned by Cooper-Sullivan Funeral Home. Communications consisted of a base Citizen’s Band radio and one mobile CB. GKRS volunteers were alerted to an emergency via telephone chain.
In 1989, the current station was dedicated. Today, the Squad employs a paid-on-call roster of thirty members and six full time personnel. Two paramedics are on duty twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. Emergency communications are made via handheld and portable radios, with 911 and dispatch services coming from Dekalb County Sheriff’s Office.
While you’re in the city of Genoa, if you see a vehicle driving with a blue light on the dash, it is likely a member of GKRS rushing to the squad to respond to a call. Give them the right of way, and wish them well in their endeavors.
