Geocache Description:

Along this winding way is a series of twelve geocaches set in anticipation and celebration of the 150th Anniversary of the Parish of St. John the Evangelist in Topsail.

The title comes from the first verse of a hymn by Canon George Earle entitled “ Hymn for St. John the Evangelist”.

We thank thee for this parish
In South Conception Bay
And all the other churches
Along this winding way;
From Topsail beach to Seal Cove
Was once one single fold
Where farmer, priest, and fisher
Faced hunger, toil and cold

Faith Pentecostal Church Foxtrap originated in a simple kitchen in Long Pond, Conception Bay South Newfoundland when Mary Tilley opened her home for services on the sixth of August, 1933. Prior to this, Pentecostals in Port De Grave Newfoundland had prayed for their relatives in Conception Bay South and then sailed across Conception Bay to conduct open air meetings on Kitty Ade's Turn.
The first of three church buildings, built in 1934 when Winnifred Taylor was Pastor, was a 300 sq. ft. building on Dawe's Road (now Ancorage Road) Long Pond. In the 1930's and until the late 1940's there was often no resident Pastor. Brethren from the churches in St. John's visited on Sunday to conduct services. Long Pond members had gone to Seal Cove with the gospel message and a church was established there. In the late 1940's Nettie Belbin was the Pastor followed by Eva Lidstone.
By 1956, the congregation had outgrown the Dawe's Road location. Under the leadership of Pastor and Mrs. James Norman (1951 - 1957) a new building (33 feet x 55 feet) was erected on the main highway. During the sixties and seventies adjacent land was purchased, the building was renovated and a new parsonage was build. In 1986 the assembly purchased two acres of land on the Foxtrap Access Road. Congregational members over the years gave of their finances and time, completed the shell and then worked inside to complete a sanctuary setting 300. Over the sixty plus years of the church's history many have come to salvation in Jesus Christ and have grown in their Christian faith. Outstanding conversions and miracles of healing have been recorded. The assembly has contributed financially and sent forth many pastors and missionaries to bring the gospel message to Newfoundland and Labrador and around the world just as it was brought to them and proclaimed in a small kitchen so many years ago
