Simple walk in fields opposite Farnborough Abbey. The cache can be accessed by bike, pram and buggy, possibly by adventurous wheelchair by paths around the edges of the fields of clumpy grass.
Lovely big fields, streams and hills for kids and dogs. The best views of the Abbey are from the geocache site itself.
Napoleon III is buried in the Abbey crypt with Princess Eugenie. The cupola of the Abbey is modelled on Les Invalides in Paris where Napoleon I is buried. Princess Eugenie was a royal widow for many years and a companion of Queen Victoria, who donated the marble for the tombs.
Also buried in the crypt is their son, the Prince Imperial who after attending Sandhurst was a forward observation oficer with the Royal Artillery in Natal. He was shadowed faithfully by his valet, until one day when the valet was absent for ten minutes, during which time the Zulus overran the position and killed the Prince Imperial.
The Abbey gates silently swing open five times a day for sung services which are open to all. Well worth a visit for the chanted services, sometimes in the crypt itself. Guided tours of the Abbey and Grounds on Saturday - more information on the website link - (visit link)
An excellent pub nearby is the Prince of Wales - famous for real ale, but not great for animals or children or food.
Parking is south in Douai Close off Abbey Way (early and late 'rush hour' parking restrictions apply) or north of the train tracks (Chingford Avenue/Highgate Lane) with a bridge accessible by wheelchairs.
The cache is well hidden on the edge of a small natural amphitheatre where evidence suggests that the modern descendants of Roman chavs like to demonstrate their platform chariots and two wheeled horses. Stealth and circumspection may be required...
