Geocache Description:

This cache is located on Turtleback Mountain on Orcas Island. Expect a short (~2-1/2 miles RT) but somewhat steep climb up old forest roads and trails.

The closest approach is from the south trail head at N48 38.494 W122 58.623. The views are astounding. Watch the little ones at the top - there are some cliffs. You are looking for an ammo can.

About Turtleback Mountain
In 2006, a partnership of the San Juan Preservation Trust, The Trust for Public Land, and the San Juan County Land Bank purchased the 1,578-acre Turtleback Mountain to preserve it for public use and to protect it from development. The acquisition was the result of six months and $18.5 million dollars of donations from more than 1,500 donors.

Visible from throughout the islands, the mountain is especially well-known for providing dramatic views over the San Juan archipelago, the Canadian Gulf Islands, the Olympic and Cascade mountain ranges, and numerous waterways in between.
