The city of Mercer Island owns more than 300 acres of forested open space on the island. Volunteers working with the Parks and Recreation department have worked many hours in recent years to remove invasive species and to plant trees in order to restore these areas to a more natural environment.
The Mercerdale Hillside is a great example of how this effort has improved the quality of the open space on Mercer Island. Over the last three years the woodlands near the cache was ridden of blackberries and scrub and in late 2008 native trees were planted. You can find more information about Mercer Island open space here.
The cache is a small plastic jar. Replaced log book on 12/23/2011.
