Geocache Description:

In the centre of Burton is the Washlands, and area of woodlands, meadows and wildfowl scrapes. Mixed in with the natural features of the Washlands are more formal landscaped gardens, paths and play areas to create a mix of natural and leisure amenities.

Close to the city centre of Burton, the Washlands has a long history. In the 7th century a lady, St Modwen, was said to have built a chapel and settlement to Saint Andrew on Andresey Island. Since then the washlands have been the site of invasions, abbeys and battles and is now and area for leisure and recreation.

Stapenhill Gardens and the surrounding areas are renowned for their colourful display of bedding plants throughout the year. The gardens form the centrepiece of Burton’s Britain in Bloom entry.

A great place for the kids and dogs, don't forget to feed the ducks and swans.

  • Paved footpaths, good for bikes and pushchairs.
  • There's a large grassed area for playing cricket or footie, and the like.
  • GPS should read "footage" from the parking area
  • MUGGLE CENTRAL------PLEASE LOOK AROUND YOU
