Athenree Homestead was built from Kauri timber in 1878 by Captain Hugh & Adela Stewart.
The homestead is of local, national & international significance as it was part of the only planned Irish settlement in the world.
This house now belongs to the people of the district & an administering trust often organize fundraising events to help restore the buildings & grounds to their former glory.
